Stop Motion Meets Addition Strategies....Learning With Pixstop

We've been crunching lots of numbers in math lately.  For the past month, we've been working on proficiency in adding two digit numbers.  Not only have we explored numerous ways that two 2-digit numbers can be added, but we've experimented with different ways that we hadn't thought of initially.  For an extension project, partner groups created a math problem that would involve regrouping.  So, they needed to think ahead - the ones would need to add up to a sum greater than 9.  Next, they chose a way to add.  There are so many options......  Here is what the partner groups chose.  They used the pixstop app to take photos and create a stop motion video of the various steps taken to solve the equation.  Next, they had to choose how many frames would appear per second for the final video, in other words the speed of the photos.  For the first video, we were experimenting with the new app.  What's your favorite way to add numbers?  Please share your strategy of choice with us! 

Welcome Miss Redman

Hi! My name is Miss Redman. I am an intern from St. Bonaventure, and I will be working with your children every Tuesday and Thursday up until May. The photo above is of an activity that I did with the students so that I could learn more about each of them. I started by holding a ball of thread and introducing myself to the class. We rolled the ball around the circle to individual students so that they could all introduce themselves to me. I will be doing a unit on the tropical rainforest in March. I will also be teaching math and reading, both in whole group and small group settings. I look forward to working with each and every student this semester.  

Snow Much Fun!

Sometimes you just need to go outside and run around in the snow!  We went outside with Mrs. Freeman's class to play on the playground, make snow angels, and get some fresh air.  It was snow much fun!
